子疾病，子路请祷。子曰：“有诸？”子路对曰：“有之。《诔》曰：‘祷尔于上下神祗。’ ”子曰：“丘之祷久矣。”

有一次孔子生病，一位学生（子路）问他可否允许通过祷告来祝愿他康复。“是这里的习俗吗？”孔子问。“是的，”学生回答，“在宗教书中写的是为死者祷告，‘求上帝保佑，求地下的鬼魂保佑。’”
“呀，”然后孔子说，“那给我的祷告肯定是个长长的长命百岁了。”
