当国君派遣孔子去接待外宾时，孔子会小心翼翼地站起，必敬必恭地接受命令，然后会向左右两侧的官员躬身行礼，并将官服整理平整。他会加快步伐走出却不显得慌慌张张，而是镇定自若，落落大方。当外宾走后，孔子会回到自己的位置，简单地宣布：“客人走了。”
