颜渊死，门人欲厚葬之，子曰：“不可。”门人厚葬之。子曰：“回也视予犹父也，予不得视犹子也。非我也，夫二三子也。”

当孔子最喜欢的学生——颜回死后，孔子的其他学生建议孔子给予厚葬。但是孔子说：“不要看我的面子而这么做。”
尽管如此，学生们还是厚葬了颜回。后来孔子对学生说：“回（这位孔子最喜欢的学生大家所熟知的称呼）对待我就像对待父亲一样，但是我却不能像对待儿子一样对待他。这不是我的错。哎！朋友们，这是你们的错呀！”
