叶公语孔子曰：“吾党有直躬者，其父攘羊，而子证之。”孔子曰：“吾党之直者异于是：父为子隐，子为父隐，直在其中矣。”
辜讲
一个小侯国在位的国君（叶公）问孔子：“在我管辖的百姓中，有些人特别耿直，父亲偷盗了一只羊，儿子准备出庭作证。”
“在我的国家，”孔子说，“耿直的人和你们那里不一样。他们认为，真正的耿直表现为，如果儿子做错了事情，父亲会保持沉默；如果父亲做错了事情，儿子会保持沉默。”
