子击磬于卫，有荷蒉而过孔氏之门者，曰：“有心哉，击磬乎！”既而曰：“鄙哉！硁硁乎！莫己知也，斯己而已矣。深则厉，浅则揭。”子曰：“果哉！末之难矣。”
辜讲
有一次正当孔子弹奏一种乐器，有人抗着筐子从门口经过。“啊！”听到音乐声，这人赞叹说，“弹奏音乐的人啊，满腹心事！”过了一会儿，他说：“这么继续弹下去，多么让人看不起！没有人会注意到你，你还是停下来吧！”
“水深合衣游过去，
水潜撩衣跋涉过。”
听到这个人说话，孔子说：“听起来当然干脆，但是做起来也不难。”
